Raising awareness for Mental Health
Sab at black lake family camp. His happy place
This page was created in loving memory of my son, Sabastian Reid Corbeil-Ikonen
Sabastian was such a beautiful young man. He was kind, compassionate, empathetic, and deeply loving. He had a heart for others and a natural ability to make people laugh. I sometimes laughed so hard my face would start to hurt. He was the kind of person who would stop to help anyone in need, without hesitation. He loved all music, playing the guitar, and he poured his thoughts and emotions into what he wrote and created. His faith mattered to him — he believed in God, and he believed in people. He always saw the good in people. He often made me stop and think differently and react differently. His kindness and compassion was infectious.
Like so many others, Sabastian struggled with his mental health. Despite his strength, his kindness, and the love surrounding him, he lost his battle and tragically took his own life. There are no words that can fully explain the pain of losing a child… especially to something so invisible, yet so powerful. Mental health is an illness, and unlike cancer we don’t see it happen on the outside. It often comes with no warning signs, and leaves those left behind feeling helpless, confused, and filled with guilt.
I am raising awareness and funds in Sabastian’s name because mental health matters. Because suffering is often hidden. Because too many people feel alone, ashamed, or afraid to ask for help. And because conversations about mental health can save lives.
This fundraiser is about more than loss, it’s about hope, understanding, and change. It’s about breaking the stigma, encouraging open conversations, and reminding people that they are not weak for struggling, and they are not alone.
If sharing Sabastian’s story helps even one person feel seen, seek help, or stay one more day…then his life, his love, and his legacy continue to matter in this world.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for remembering Sabastian. And thank you for standing with me in raising awareness for mental health.
Love Jess.
