About Moving Forward Family Services:
Moving Forward Family Services is a registered charity and non-profit that has revolutionized mental health care in Canada.
We are among the busiest non-profit counselling services in the country having provided 100,000+ mental health counselling and support sessions since our inception in 2015. In the past two years, provided over 40,000 counselling sessions in 30+ languages.
At Moving Forward Family Services, we are committed to empowering underserved communities through innovative, accessible counselling and support services. With a core team of 4-5 positions, we’ve created a hybrid model that has serves thousands of clients across Canada each month.
- Our no-fee and sliding scale models make counselling accessible.
- With 170+ students (on unpaid practicums who come to us to complete their required post-secondary education practice hours) therapists and social workers and 30+ qualified, experienced supervisors, we are shaping the next generation of accessible mental health professionals.
- Our alumni (200+) offer sliding scale services to anyone who may have needs better supported by more experienced therapists and social workers.
- We Offer Additional Free Programs: From life skills coaching to substance use recovery, mindfulness, seniors support and parenting support, we provide structured psycho-educational services that complement therapy.
- We provide intensive supervision and training to our team of therapists, social workers and supervisors to ensure exceptional services for our diverse, under-served communities.
The agency was created in response to an ever-growing gap in mental health counselling created by a public health system that is siloed and bureaucratic, and lack the resources to meet the need, and a private health system that is unaffordable to many. We address the gaps between public and private, with much of our support coming from the community.
This support frees us from the shackles of public funding models that limit the ability to provide services that match community needs, such as timely therapy, and allows us to offer not just individual support, but family, extended family and community level-interventions; early intervention; prevention (meaning less and less people reaching mental health crises); and evidence-based innovative interventions ones that are often rejected by entrenched systems that reinforce the status quo.
